Portfolio for Wizards of the Coast
My name is Anwar Hanano and I have worked as a professional illustrator for 12 years. My work spans comics, board games, spot illustrations for products, logo development, and illustrations for D&D supplemental material. I have worked with RezNova games on their game Warzone Eternal creating concept art and miniature designs for their miniature game alongside spot illustrations for their marketing campaign and rulebook. I have also worked with Stat Trackers making monster spot illustrations for dnd supplemental materials and with the Dungeon Coach for his supplemental material.
On top of that, I have worked with Archie Comics, DC, Udon, and Blue Juice Comics along with Crispy Games, View Bird Games, and Rattrap Games.
Working with Wizards of The Coast is a dream for me. I got into D&D late in my life, around 2017. Since then I have become a dungeon master for my group and have been DMing the same campaign since 2020. It was the Waterdeep Heist and has now bloomed into something entirely different.
People that work with me will tell you I am easy to work with and will give 100% every time. I love what I do and I love making art.
Thank you for considering my portfolio and I hope to be hearing from you. And if not, I hope you have a great day.

Illustrations

Spot illustration for RezNova’s Warzone Eternal. This is an illustration of the Razide, an already established monstrous creature in the Warzone Universe.
This illustration was drawn on an Ipad using Procreate and painted in Photoshop. The layers were set up so the creature and background could be separated for marketing collateral.

Spot illustrations for Rattrap Games Desolate Front. Desolate Front was designed to be a war game with eldritch horror elements. The game was based on fantastical version of WW1 where cultists were trying to summon eldritch horrors from beyond while WW1 factions fought for territory.
Top left- The Masonic Golem. The idea of this was a golem based on the magic mathematical architectural precision. I imagined the golem building itself constantly as it ravaged the battle field. The design is by me.
Top right- The High Priest Cultist. The description I received for the High Priest Cultist was an eldritch horror priest who’s body was altered from a parasite of the great beyond.
Bottom Left- Master of the Hunt. This was a Celtic “hero” of the British faction. A woodland spirit with ghostly wolf hounds.
Spot illustrations for Rattrap Games Desolate Front and
Djinn of the High Desert by Toresh Games.
Djinn of the High Desert is card game where sultans summon genies to attack other sultans’ palaces.
Top Right- Djinn of Destruction. This was a summonable unit which would be used to overcome enemy factions with a combination of melee and magical attacks.
Bottom Left- Genie of Fire.
Bottom Right- Genie of Water.

Characters and Monsters
Spot illustration for Stat Trackers. Giant spiders, the greatest enemy of low level adventurers. I wanted to add some flavor to it and give it a very particular coloration.
Spot illustrations for Stat Trackers Friends and Foes Collection and for DC20 playbook.
Top Right- My rendition of the Ettercap. I was requested to give it as many monstrous qualities as possible so I wanted to give it horrible multifingered hands and a mouth surrounded by pedipalps.
Bottom Left- Deep Gnome. Based on the SRD description.
Bottom Right- Gnawers. This was a custom monster for the DC20 playbook. Gnawers are fey creatures who make their home in the Fey dark. They are smaller than gnomes and kind of an amalgamation of gremlins and red caps.

Spot illustrations for DC20 playbook.
Top Left- Blood Hawk. This hawk’s feathers are coveted by warriors because of the blessings they bestow on their possessors. The blood hawk’s feathers are said to help guide a warrior’s weapon to strike true.
Top Right- Aella the Quick. Head of the thieves guild, she is a shrewd ruler who maintains an air of mystery to manipulate those around her.
Bottom Left- Praying Mantis. The Praying Mantis is in a sect of clergy of the Arthrocane Order. They are all female. No one knows what happened to the males...

Spot illustrations for Stat Trackers. All of the main giants, from storm to hill giant. I tried to hone in on a given aesthetic for each giant type. This was good practice in trying to capture a specific persona and aesthetic together. (Order based on height, not the Ordning.)
Sketches and Process

My normal process when creating an illustration for a client is to always start with a “tight” sketch that can easily show the client what I’m thinking. This should shows the proportions, a base idea of materials, the pose, and background elements if needed.
For this project I was tasked by Stat Trackers to make an illustration of an orc.
My first draft (top left) of the orc was “too handsome” and I was requested to come up with another version of the orc. The main guidelines I had were make them more “hulking and monstrous” so I changed the pose and beefed up the proportions a bit more(top right).
The client liked this version much better so I started the next part of my process, tightening the line work and figuring out the shading. When I do this I use procreate and tend to use “brushes” that feel more like b pencils. Because this was the first time I was working with stat trackers I showed them a version of the line work, which was much tighter and then started shading(bottom left).

After receiving the “ok” for shading, I requested color information needed about the piece. The client requested the orc be green, because they preferred green orcs. Flat colors are applied below the shaded drawing (top left).
Once the okay for the flat colors came in I started painting. most of the guesswork on lighting had already been done in the shading step so most of the painting can focus on color balance, textures, and if needed materials. The final product speaks for itself (bottom right).

Concept art for Mishima Shadow Walker Miniatures.
Top Right- After receiving the design brief I drew three versions with different elements for each for the client to choose from.
Bottom - The client chose elements from each drawing and had me put them together into a final design. They then requested I draw different poses for the miniatures.

Two page layout for the Comic Book Cog and Flame. For this two page spread, I was requested to create a city that was at one time an elvish city that had fallen into ruin, and then taken over by goblins who love magical technology. The goal was to show how the past civilization influenced the current occupants in their building style.
